A lord or “ahau” meditates while contemplating the landscape. One one’s mind becomes detached, one’s place becomes remote. A remote place evokes a distant time, perhaps one that antedates these precarious states we proudly call civilization. Barbarians are everywhere, how did sensibility emerge from such violence?
